Body talk
The body never stops being exploited and objectified. It’s judged, praised and criticized. The body is political, personal, natural and the most provocative subject there is. We all have an idea about what body is allowed to exist in what room.
With this project I want to celebrate the different expressions of the body with three positions, one movement, one sitting and one resting. With these objects I want to start a conversation about how we se ourselves and others.
The sculptures are made out of eviorpentally friendly mirror glass and plywood.
The brilliant photographs are taken by Isak DeJong and the beautiful model is my muse, and grandmother Carin.
Process
In my process I made several nude studies, some in organised forms and some on my own in bathing facilities. With a little sketchbook in the pocket of my robe, I lurked around like the little pervert I am staring at people and then I drew them from my mind in the locker room.
During the process I felt te need to talk and process my own thoughts, and when I opened up to other women about my thoughts it became a natural part of the piece. Therefor the material mirror felt perfect, a magical material with strong connotations to vanity, self image, self love, selfies and reflection.
Dream development of the project!
